ALEXANDRIA, Va.-The NCUA Board last week approved Rodney Hood as its vice chairman.
"I am pleased that Rodney Hood will be serving as Vice Chairman of the NCUA Board," NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson commented. "I look forward to a good working relationship, as we focus on maintaining a safe and sound regulatory environment and enhancing the ability of America's credit unions to serve communities across the nation by providing affordable financial services."
Hood was nominated in May to the NCUA Board and sworn into office Nov. 15. He has 17 years of experience in the public and private sectors, most recently as associate administrator of the Rural Housing Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he was responsible for managing a $43 billion loan portfolio with over 400,000 loans.

He planned to begin his term in office with a "listening tour" of the credit union community in Mississippi last week. He had scheduled a visit with Hope Community Credit Union and the Enterprise Corporation of the Delta in Jackson on Dec. 1. The same day he was slated to address the Pine Burr Chapter of the Mississippi Credit Union Association at the Hattiesburg Convention Center.
Hood also announced that he will be the guest speaker at the African-American Credit Union Coalition's winter networking meeting. The AACUC meeting, which coincides with CUNA's 2006 Governmental Affairs Conference in February, will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Feb 27, 2006 at the Hilton Washington & Towers in Washington D.C.
The coalition said more details will be available soon. The AACUC has also announced information on its 2006 annual meeting. The conference will take place Aug. 11-12 in Seattle at the Seattle Hilton. This year's theme is "Bridge Over the Waters: Your Passage to Success."
