PORTLAND, Ore. – In time for Thanksgiving, a record crowd of Oregon credit union executives turned out Nov. 15 for the annual Bob Burns Remembrance Turkey Shoot, a charity benefit aimed at giving away turkeys for the needy and raising funds for a local shelter. "This is the biggest crowd we've ever had with 260 taking part," said Teri Piteck, vice president of operations at Point West CU and coordinator for the Turkey Shoot sponsored by the Mt. Hood Chapter of the Credit Union Association of Oregon. There are 25 CUs in the chapter. The annual event, held since 1983, honors the late Bob Burns, the former CEO of Multico CU, now Point West. Meeting in a Portland restaurant, participants raised $1,700 and donated 700 pounds of canned food, while also taking part in a dart-throwing contest to win 120 turkeys, many of which were given away to Portland needy. Piteck said the funds were raised for Blanchet House, a Portland shelter. Also joining in the event were 11 CU vendors, which traditionally promote an array of loan, insurance and automotive products.
