SAN ANTONIO – Want to show students the credit union difference? Firstmark Credit Union says try adoption. Firstmark CU has adopted 10 local elementary schools as part of its Adopt-A-School program “The Firstmark Credit Union Adopt-A- School Program is a community initiative geared at supporting area schools and helping educate youth on the importance of savings,” said Firstmark CU President/CEO Leon Ewing. “Young people that learn the basics of savings and personal finance early on in their lives, make wiser consumers as they mature. For this reason, Firstmark Credit Union is a strong supporter of financial education at all levels.” Each of Firstmark CU’s eight branches has at least one school that they have “adopted” as part of this program. The Adopt-A-Schools for this year include: Evers Elementary, Thousand Oaks Elementary, McDermott Elementary, Franklin Elementary, Scheh Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Royal Ridge Elementary, Price Elementary, Huppertz Elementary and St. Joseph’s Catholic School. As part of the program, Firstmark CU provides free youth financial education materials to parents and teachers; works with school PTA/PTO groups, encourages children to start saving money early; offers Career Day speakers; makes classroom presentations, provides giveaways, and more.
