LAS VEGAS -CUES has honored its Alabama, Rocky Mountain and Michigan Councils as 2005 Outstanding Councils during its CEO Network 2005 conference. In addition, CUES Alabama Council also walked away with the award for most improved Council. Councils are regional groups of CUES members that offer networking opportunities and career-enhancing resources to credit union executives on a local level. Run by members on a volunteer basis, CUES’ 28 Councils are judged annually on professional development, special events, format delivery and promotional materials. The three Outstanding Councils each receive $1,000 to use for future meetings and the Award of Excellence winners each receive $500. The Most Improved Council receives $750. Councils are divided into three categories based on their number of CUES members. In the fewer than 75 members category, CUES Alabama Council was presented the Glenn D. Johnson Outstanding Council Award. Their board members include: Chairman Joyce M. Dye, Redstone FCU vice president/communications/business development; Vice Chairman Vickie A. Yaeger, America’s First FCU senior vice president/information technology; Secretary Linda S. Cencula, Alabama Telco CU president/CEO; Treasurer Paula Miller, University FCU senior vice president; Membership Director H. Greg McClellan, MAX FCU president/CEO; and Director Ronald C. Haas, Alabama Central CU president. Also, in this category, CUES Nevada and North Carolina Councils received Awards of Excellence. The Everett Wood Most Improved Council Award went to CUES Alabama Council. CUES Rocky Mountain Council received the Elmer F. Cinnater Outstanding Council Award honoring a Council with 75 to 150 CUES members. Board members include: Chairman William N. Willingham, WyHy FCU president/CEO; Vice Chairman Eva D. Gaudio, St. Vrain Valley CU president/CEO; Treasurer Mark Lau, Premier Members FCU senior vice president retail delivery; Secretary Mark D. Cummins, White Crown FCU president/CEO; and Directors Edward R. Bigby, Jr., Norbel CU president/general manager; A. Wayne Crane, Arapahoe CU president/CEO; Bradley Harvey, Horizons North CU president/CEO; C. Michael Litzau, Colorado Central CU president/CEO; and Winona M. Nava, Guadalupe CU president/CEO. In addition, CUES Illinois and Utah Councils were honored with Awards of Excellence. Honored with the Robert P. Garrard Award for a Council with more than 150 CUES members was the CUES Michigan Council. Board members include: Chairman Michele E. Wollard, Auto Club Group CU president; Vice Chairman Janice Rose, E & A CU CEO; Treasurer James A. Mattson, University of Michigan CU president; Secretary Theodore Parsons, Community Choice CU chief operations officer; and Directors Thomas Gisewhite, Dort FCU vice president marketing/business development; Mary L. McDonald, USA CU president/CEO; Janet Thompson, CU ONE vice president marketing/development; and Konnie M. Werner, Team One CU president/CEO. CUES Florida and Southern California/Arizona Councils also received Awards of Excellence in this category. CUES also honored its top new-member recruiters from the past year. C-Plant FCU President/CEO Mark Atwood, Orange County Teachers FCU President/CEO Rudy Hanley, and Altura CU President/CEO Mark Hawkins each recruited five to seven new CUES members over a one-year period.
