RALEIGH, N.C. – As identity theft continues to be a nationwide concern, State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) is ensuring security by launching a program that is all about membership and the individual. SECU’s latest pilot project – “It’s a Me Thing” – will provide members a free identification (ID) card complete with their name, photo and signature. With member account information only accessible through SECU’s teller system, members can simply swipe their ID card at the teller station rather than having to speak aloud their account or social security number. In addition, emergency contact information and medical conditions can be listed on the back of all member ID cards. “SECU is excited to offer this level of service and protection for our members, as the Member ID cards and photo debit cards may assist in fraud prevention and improve security,” said SECU Senior Vice President of Card/Record Services Leanne Phelps. “The ID cards will allow SECU to provide members with fast and accurate service during their branch visits.” Playing up the “It’s a Me Thing” theme, ID cards are available in a variety of styles including special designs for Golden Circle and FAT CAT members. The Golden Circle Club is for retired members 50 and above. The FAT CAT Program is a savings club for children up to age 12. The ID card for FAT CAT members will also include vital statistics.
