BEL AIR, Md. – Neighborhood kids here helped Freedom Federal Credit Union with its hurricane relief efforts. Freedom FCU encouraged members to aid the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita through contributions at the local branches with special accounts set up for The American Red Cross and Salvation Army. A Web message was also posted on Freedom FCU’s home page with links to the organizations’ sites. While many members responded in person, a trio of nine-year-old residents from Brentwood Park Olivia Benden, Carly Spencer, and Justin Collins decided that they wanted to help and set out going door-to-door to collect donations for the American Red Cross. Spence and Benden did the same thing back in 2001 for the 9/11 victims. The children collected a total of $81.33 to the Red Cross Katrina Relief Account. “What a magnificent effort by these kids,” said Freedom FCU CEO Rose Ann Lambert.
