RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Altura Credit Union has opted to sponsor a blood drive to replenish the chronically low blood supply. Sixty-seven people, including Altura employees, volunteers and family and friends, participated in the one-day blood drive contributing 67 pints of blood that eventually may help save 200 lives. Eighteen of those participating in Altura’s drive donated blood for the first time. A frequent blood donor, Altura Board Chairman Bob Gray participated and provided a great role model for staff. In addition, Altura offered incentives for employees to participate, including a raffle for $5 and $10, juice and coffee gift cards. Those who had to travel from branch locations to the Operations and Technology Center to participate were eligible for a special “travel” raffle for a $25 gas card. Three grand prize winners took home themed gift baskets.
