LA CROSSE, Wis. – Wisconsin Builder Magazine has singled out design/build firm La Macchia Group, LLC, with a "Top Project Award" for its restoration and remodeling of Community Credit Union's corporate headquarters and retail banking center. With the intention of creating a bigger presence in La Crosse's financial district, the credit union purchased three adjacent dilapidated buildings in the downtown area t house the new facility. "The buildings had been neglected for quite some time," said La Macchia Group President Ralph La Macchia. "The second and third floors were uninhabitable. It was awful." With an emphasis on restoring the building to its former glory, the result was a mix of modern conveniences with nostalgic touches reminiscent of the late 1800s including incorporating old teller lines and parts of pressed tin ceilings. To ensure the step back in time was updated, state-of-the-art technology from plasma screens, remote teller stations and a variety of retailing concepts can be found throughout the space. "We resurrected the historic sense of the building and brought it back to the glory of when it was originally built," said La Macchia. "We rededicated a building that has stood for over one hundred years and will now stand for at least one hundred more."
