LAS VEGAS – The care and feeding of credit union directors has come to be a nice chunk of business for United Communications Group, of Rockville, Md., the sponsor of the National Directors’ Convention here. Indeed, the, 28th annual convention held in Las Vegas over the last seven years and which this time around drew a record 2,500 attendees and 85 exhibitors, is just one part of UCG’s package of meeting, networking and publishing services targeted to the movement. UCG, founded in 1977 and a privately owned limited partnership, calls itself “a leading provider of business to business” publishing and related products serving – in addition to credit unions – a diverse industry audience ranging from health care and oil/energy to tax preparation and education and high technology. It produces some 60 newsletters and related publications including two directed to CUs, the weekly CEO Report Newsletter, and the bi-monthly Board Notes. Publisher of those two publications is Dennis J. Sullivan, who served as conference director here and is also head of the National Center for Credit Unions in Rockville. The firm has 1,000 employees with branch offices in six U.S. cities.
