IRWINDALE, Calif. – The Baldwin Park Chamber of Commerce has recently honored SCE Federal Credit Union as the 2004-2005 “Business of the Year.” In addition to the Baldwin Park Chamber of Commerce honor, SCE FCU was also the recipient of various recognitions including a “certificate of Special Congressional Recognition” from Congresswoman Hilda Solis, a “County of Los Angeles Commendation from Supervisor Gloria Molina, a “State of California Senate Certificate of Recognition” from the office of Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero, and a “California State Assembly Certificate of Recognition” from Assemblyman Ed Chavez. The “Business of the Year” award is presented to the business that exemplifies a demonstrated commitment to community. SCE FCU won this year’s award in the category of businesses with more than 15 employees. Other finalists in this category included Wal-Mart and Home Depot. As part of the credit union’s commitment to the community it serves, SCE FCU has supported several Baldwin Park organizations and causes including community clean-up projects, food giveaway programs and holiday toy drives. In 2004, SCE FCU volunteer employees devoted an estimated 380 hours of service to the Baldwin Park community. In addition, as SCE FCU’s “adopted” school, Geddes Elementary is the recipient of several financial donations and volunteer participation in school programs. SCE FCU also conducts financial literacy education seminars several times a month free of charge for school parents, local residents and businesses as part of their on-going commitment to teaching skills necessary to achieve financial stability and growth. “We are honored to receive this award from the Baldwin Park Chamber of Commerce, ” said SCE FCU Chief Operations Officer George Poitou. “ We are about people helping people. It’s this philosophy that is the driving force behind everything that we do. Not just in the financial arena, but in all the needs of the community.”
