Credit Unions For Kids, San Diego, has donated $160,000 to Children’s Hospital and Health Center for the Patient Care Fund which will directly aid patients through programs, services and technology. In its eighth year of existence, CUFK is comprised of 17 San Diego area credit unions collectively fundraising on behalf of Children’s Hospital. Diamond Credit Union, Pottstown, Pa., has raised over $18,700 during the Olivet Boys and Girls Club Kiss-a-Pig fundraiser. Diamond CU’s President/CEO,John Faust was among 12 Berks County business leaders selected to be a candidate to kiss a pig. Diamond CU raised funds through a variety of events, including a golf outing and a raffle for a chance to win Eagles tickets. SWC Federal Credit Union, Dahlgren, Va., has raised over $3,600 during the 2nd Annual Arthritis Foundation Walk. In addition to a team of 25 walking the credit union also raised funds by auctioning off personal assistants and life-sized celebrity cut outs. A total of three hundred walkers participated and donations totaled $35,000 at this year’s event. First Service Federal Credit Union, Groveport, Ohio, has donated and distributed over 240 bottles of water doing the Groveport community’s first annual Cops and Kids Day. First Service FCU employees handed out piggy banks and Dollar Dog Kids Club information to attendees to promote youth accounts and encourage saving. More than a dozen police and fire departments were in attendance to teach kids bicycle, personal, and fire safety. Spokane Federal Credit Union, Wash., volunteers have provided lunches for the 20th Annual Bear Lake Fishing Trip for special education students. The students, from Central Valley School District, fished with the help of parents, Spokane Valley Fire Fighters, and the Spokane Walleye Club. To feed the group, 10 credit union employees volunteered before work to make 120 lunches for the event. Local food banks received the extra food. Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union, Anchorage, has donated over $10,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network. The funds were raised through “Twice the Help,” a matching program Denali Alaskan developed and through a fundraising incentive created around Denali Alaskan’s yearly “skip-a-pay” promotion. Denali Alaskan was also the recipient of the “Newcomer of the Year” award given by Children’s Miracle Network for their fundraising efforts in 2004. Washington State Employees Credit Union, Olympia, has recently sponsored a booth at the Lacey Fun Fair in Washington to provide free photo identification cards for area children and their parents. The popular service known as I-Dent-A-Kid gives parents a drivers-license size card with a current description, color photograph and fingerprint of their child to use in the event of a disappearance or other emergency. South Carolina Federal Credit Union, North Charleston, has donated $500 to the Tri-County Home for Girls, which creates a structured living situation to help women between the ages 12 to 21 who have been physically, mentally or sexually abused. The donation will go toward helping in several restoration projects in and around the facility. Ent Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo., has raised over $24,500 to support cancer research and local American Cancer Society programs, including counseling and informational sessions for both cancer patients and their families. Nearly 200 employees participated on Relay for Life teams and took turns walking the 12 hours throughout the night in support of the ongoing fight against cancer.
