The best way to make certain that a letter submitted to Credit Union Times, for consideration for publishing it in the weekly letters to the editor section, is not used, is to also send that letter to other credit union publications at the same time. Note that the word editor in letters to the editor is singular; it is not letters to the editors. Because Credit Union Times expects letters it receives to be exclusive, those given other distribution are not printed, that is not printed in Credit Union Times. Other credit union publications don’t have the same standards and print everything they receive. Ironically, this means that Credit Union Times is actually generating letters to the editor for other credit union publications. Writers of these letters later tell our editors that they preferred being published in Credit Union Times. Sorry, that’s not the way reputable publications work. Could anyone see Newsweek publishing a letter that was also sent to Time Magazine? No way.
