MELBOURNE, Fla. – Space Coast Credit Union Lifetime Director Emeritus Jesee W. Walker has died. A longtime member and volunteer, Walker dedicated over 40 years to credit union service. Walker is credited with helping SCCU grow from 5,000 members and one branch to managing assets of over $1 billion for more than 130,000 members. With a start as a member of the credit committee during his 46 years of volunteer service, Walker served as the credit committee chairman, and on several other committees, including land acquisition, building, maintenance, and loan review. He was also chairman and vice chairman of the board. Walker’s background experience in Civil Engineering also proved to be a tremendous benefit during the construction of several of the credit union’s branch facilities. As a result, the board named the conference room at the Daytona regional headquarters after him. In remembrance of his vision and tireless dedication to the best interests of the members of the credit union, Space Coast CU is recognizing Walker in its branches and on its Web site. “It is important to acknowledge Mr. Walker because he is the root of our organization. We are a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative, governed by a board of members, elected by their fellow members, to oversee their collective needs,” said SCCU President/CEO Doug Samuels, SCCU President and CEO. “Jesse was a rough-and-tumble Florida native who made his own way in the world through his hard work and resourcefulness. He was demanding of himself and others and if he was satisfied with something, it was usually because it was excellent.”
