Credit Union Times staffers frequently receive e-mails that are top heavy with dozens of e-mail addresses of other recipients of the same e-mail. Not only is it time consuming to have to scroll down to the point the actual message begins, more important, it is a violation of individual privacy rights. What in effect the sender is doing is disclosing the private e-mail addresses of a lot of people who may choose not to give widespread distribution of their e-mail address. This practice gives a less than honorable person direct entre into personal computers via obviously legitimate e-mail addresses. Showcasing all these e-mail addresses is a Spammer’s dream. In these days of rampant identity fraud, it is just one more tool for fraudsters to utilize. Think how a Holiday Greeting card envelope would look if every person sent a card was shown on the envelope. So why do it with e-mails? Not a good idea.
