LATHAM, N.Y. – The New York State Credit Union League has come out for Assemblywoman Catharine Young (R-Olean) for election to the state Senate representing the 57th Senate District at a special May 10th election called by Gov. George Pataki following the death of Sen. Pat McGee (R-Olean). The League said Young has been a long-time credit union supporter, attending legislative events in Albany and in her district. She presently serves as the highest Ranking Minority Member on the Housing Committee. She is also a member of the Task Force on the State of New York Agriculture and the Task Force on Sex Crimes Against Children and Women. During her time in the Assembly, she has also been a leader on tax cuts, economic development and job creation. She was the first member of the Assembly to propose cutting the marriage penalty tax, an idea that was later incorporated into law. NYSCUL President/CEO William Mellin said Young "understands the essential role credit unions provide to her constituents and will be an active advocate in the 57th Senate District."
