RIVERSIDE, Calif. – During the third annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, Altura Credit Union played host to some 100 youngsters. Created by the Ms. Foundation for Women, the national event was created in 2003 to broaden the discussion about the challenge of balancing work and family. A day at their parents' workplace provides a forum for girls and boys to share their ideas about the workplace of the future and puts a focus on expanding future opportunities for all children in both their work and family lives. Employees from 11 branch locations and the Operations and Technology Center participated. Parents took their children on tours of their work locations and provided a one-on-one demonstration of what they do "on the job." Altura CU also hosted pizza parties at each location. "This is such a great opportunity for our employees who are parents to show their children what they do at work," said Ricki McManuis, Altura CU senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications. "All working parents deal with juggling work and family. By participating in this event, we are demonstrating our commitment to our employees and their families. It helps the children understand what their parents are doing at work when they are in school or daycare. It also demonstrates the importance of their parents work, not only in their own lives, but to their employer."
