Naval Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union, Virginia Beach, Va., staffers Vickie Baker, Cynthia Horton, Debbie Causey and Sharon Chadil braved the rain and wind to walk five miles for the March of Dimes. NMA staff and members contributed $500 in donations to the March of Dimes to sponsor the four walkers. Holy Rosary Credit Union, Rochester, N.H., has teamed up with Collins Sports and the NH Fisher Cats to donate baseball tickets and gloves to the children of St. Charles Children’s Home. HRCU purchased and donated the tickets in conjunction with the NH Fisher Cats. Collins Sports of Rochester donated baseball gloves to the children who will be attending the game. On June 18th, the children will take the field with the players for the national anthem, and lunch on hot dogs, chips and soda while watching the New Hampshire Fisher Cats play against the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees Affiliate). Kids will also have a chance to play on the field once the game is over. Marine Federal Credit Union, Jacksonville, N.C., employees have raised some $17,000 for the American Cancer Society during the Relay for Life. Fundraisers ranged from bake sales, hot dog and Sloppy Joe lunches, to dress down day, and auctions of handmade items and the President/CEO’s parking space. Marine FCU received a Gold Sponsor plaque, an award for most money raised by a financial institution, an award for most money raised by a team, and best decorated site. AltaOne Federal Credit Union, Ridgecrest, Calif., has donated two HP LaserJet printers to Murray Middle School. The printers, which are in good condition, will be used in classes. Cleveland/Bradley County Teachers Credit Union, Tenn., has donated funds to help local Ocoee Middle School eighth grader Sarah Hayes attend the 2005 National Junior Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. Students attending the NJLC are exposed to people, places and knowledge that will give them a realistic perspective on all aspects of the field of their choice. Merck, Sharp and Dohme Federal Credit Union, Northwales, Pa., has donated 25 computers to Computers for Schools, a nonprofit organization committed to the reuse of computer equipment. Donated computers are refurbished and placed in schools, nonprofit organizations or need-based homes. Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., has raised $5,580.81 in support of the Children’s Miracle Network. Employees sold paper Hershey’s kisses for $1.00 each at all branches. In addition, Robins FCU teamed up with the Middle Georgia Chapter of Credit Unions to participate in a Bowl-A-Thon for CMN. All funds raised will benefit The Children’s Hospital in Macon, Georgia. St. Louis Postal Credit Union, staffers have cleaned out their overflowing closets to benefit the Salvation Army. The clothing drive is an annual spring event for the credit union. South Jersey Federal Credit Union, Washington Township, N.J., has donated $1,000 to help its team of 50 staffers walk to benefit Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic disease of the central nervous system affecting the brain and spinal cord, usually strikes adults in the prime of life – between age 20 and 50. Money raised will go toward MS research efforts. Pacific Service Credit Union, Walnut Creek, Calif., has provided more than 3,000 low-income children in Fresno County EOC’s Head Start program with new book bags filled with school supplies. The credit union donated $19,000 for the purchase of the bags, pencils, erasers, crayons, coloring and reading books for each student enrolled in the early learning program for disadvantaged children. Each school bag also contained a piggy bank to encourage the youngsters to save money. Ent Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo. has selected 11 local organizations to receive its Youth Endowment Series (YES) grants for 2005. The recipient agencies include: Big Brothers/Big Sisters – Pikes Peak ; Children’s Advocacy Center for the Pikes Peak Region, Inc.; Children’s Literacy Center; Colorado Springs Teen Court, Inc.; Community Partnership for Child Development; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration; KIDPOWER of Colorado Springs; Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado; TESSA; and YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region. Introduced in 2000, the YES program directs specific support to organizations benefiting children and young people in the Pikes Peak region. Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union, Lowell, Mass., has donated five laptops toward the Laptops for Lowell program at Lowell High School. The goal of the program is to encourage student’s attendance and increase the number of seniors applying for acceptance into post secondary schools or the military. Graduating seniors who meet the criteria will receive a new laptop at the end of the school year: GHS Federal Credit Union, Binghamton, N.Y., has encouraged employees to donate foods that begin with the letter “M” to be distributed to food banks in Broome and Chenango Counties. Everyone was quite creative with donations of: Mashed Potatoes, Macaroni, Powdered Milk, Minestrone Soup, Mushroom Spaghetti Sauce, Mac & Cheese dinners, and Muffin Mixes. Sunmark Federal Credit Union, Schenectady, N.Y., has participated in this year’s National Rebuilding Day. Sunmark FCU, in conjunction with Rebuilding Together Saratoga County, celebrated National Rebuilding Day by volunteering on a home rebuilding project in Ballston Spa, N.Y. National Rebuilding Day, the largest event for non-profit organization Rebuilding Together, helps low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly and disabled, repair and revitalize their houses to provide warm and safe communities.
