I was taken aback by the April 27 article entitled, “Credit Union Trades, NCUA Celebrate Bankruptcy Reform Bill Signing”. I don’t think they were the only ones celebrating. I don’t mean to suggest you didn’t get the credit union perspective, because you had Jim Blaine once again criticizing the bill; but there are other CUs and many of us don’t see it the same way Mr. Blaine does. I was rejoicing and high-fiving anyone within reach on March 10th when it passed in the Senate. Is it perfect? No, of course not, but is it a great accomplishment to have means testing and financial education included now? You betcha. I don’t see the empirical evidence to support the opponents’ claims that the poor, downtrodden, or infirmed are going to be adversely affected by this piece of legislation. Means testing will not keep those in the greatest need from filing, only those who have capacity from skipping out. Kelly V. Schermerhorn Vice President of Operations CES CU, Inc. Mount Vernon, Ohio
