New York League Calls First Time CUPAC Fundraising Dinner a Success

LATHAM, N.Y. – The New York State Credit Union League says its first fundraising dinner to benefit its state political action committee “far surpassed expectations.” The fundraising event was held April 11 at one of the state capital’s top political hangouts, Jack’s Oyster House. The League raised just over $7,200 to benefit CUPAC from the dinner, which NYSCUL VP Governmental Affairs Amy Kramer said is comparable to what the League has raised at golf events to benefit CUPAC. Kramer explained that the League uses various avenues to raise CUPAC funds such as deduct-a-buck and silent auctions, and the fundraising dinner at the popular eatery got rave reviews from the more than 60 credit union attendees from across the state and many cosponsors who attended. Entertainment for the dinner was provided by local radio personality Richie Phillips who kept the mood lively throughout the evening with games, music and political humor. To raise additional funds, the League also held a 50/50 raffle. The winner, Empire Corporate FCU’s Kevin Brauer, donated the money back to CUPAC. All proceeds raised from the dinner will be used to make campaign contributions to legislators who vote for and support credit unions and members. Event sponsors included: AmeriCU, Branch 6000 NALC CU, COCC, CUNA Mutual Group, MemberTrade Advisory Services LLC, Enterprise Car Sales, Erie County ECU, Hudson River Community CU, Melrose CU, MorPAC, Municipal CU, and Riehlman, Shafer & Shafer. New York credit unions have more than $34 billion in assets in total and more than four million members. The New York State Credit Union League is the fourth largest in the country.
