Credit Union of Southern California, San Diego, Calif., former CEO Joe Incorvaia has died at the age of 85. The CU pioneer took over the Assistant Treasurer/Manager position of the Whittier Area Schools FCU in the 1950s when it had less than $100,000 in assets. While teaching full time at Whittier High School, Incorvaia and his wife Nellie ran the credit union from their home for several years. As the credit union grew, he continued working as a teacher at Cerritos College and part-time for the credit union for a number of years. He eventually retired from teaching to work full-time at WASFCU alongside his wife the assistant manager until their retirement to Palm Springs in 1983. At the time of their retirement, the credit union, which is now known as CU of Southern California had reached over $50 million in assets. Incorvaia is survived by his four children, 11 grandchildren and four great-grand children. The credit union tradition continues with his daughter, Robin Lentz, the CEO of Cabrillo Credit Union in San Diego, California. Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union, Winthrop, Maine, Founder/Treasurer Wayne Healey has died at the age of 83. Healey, along with his wife, Marion, helped to establish the Mill Workers’ Credit Union, now the Winthrop Area FCU. For its first 16 years of existence, the CU was located in the Healey’s house prior to moving to its current location on Highland Avenue in Winthrop. Healey served as treasurer of the credit union for more than two decades prior to retiring in 1983. In lieu of flowers, donations in Healey’s memory may be made to: HealthReach Hospice and Volunteers of Kennebec Valley, P.O. Box 829, Waterville, Maine 04903.
