WASHINGTON-Though the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act has yet to be introduced this Congress, Representative Norm Dicks (D-Wash.) has announced that he plans to co-sponsor the bill when it is introduced, the Washington Credit Union League reported. According to the league, Dicks told the state’s credit union delegation to CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference that he planned to sign onto the bill, which had 69 total supporters signed on last year. “We are extremely pleased with Rep. Dicks’ commitment to co-sponsor this legislation that will allow credit unions to define our own future,” league President and CEO John Annaloro said. “Last year we had his commitment on the vote. This year he is leading the legislative effort.” Dicks is the first legislator from the state of Washington to commit to co-sponsoring CURIA. “I believe credit unions are vitally important. I’ve been a 100 percent supporter, because I’ve been a member my entire life,” Dicks told a collection of 50 Washington state participants in GAC. “That’s why I’m co-sponsoring the CURIA bill. I’m also supporting you on the bankruptcy reform. And if there’s anything else that you want me to do, I’ll do it.” Dicks, the most senior congressman from Washington, made the announcement during his keynote speech at the Washington CU League’ annual congressional breakfast.
