MADISON, Wis. – It was all set. CUNA Mutual’s union was planning on bringing its argument against the company to the GAC. The union, the Office of Professional Employees International Union Local 39, confirms that it did plan to have a visible presence at the conference and distribute information to credit union attendees to bring more attention to the labor dispute. The union said just a few days before the conference that it has reconsidered after talking to CUNA and other groups about their plans, and based on new hopes of progress. “We are hopeful that there is some movement with negotiations,” said Peterson. CUNA Mutual did catch wind of the plans and held its board meeting at an undisclosed location last week – it typically holds a board meeting in conjunction with GAC. The union likely would have been hurting its relationship with CUNA and WOCCU, which it also represents. The union has long touted its exemplary working relationship with these groups, and earlier this year struck a new contract with them.
