Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union, Md., has donated $1,700 to its school-business partner, Thomson Estates Elementary School (TEES). During the year, APGFCU staffers delivered Moola Moola money management lessons to students in Pre-K through fifth grade. APGFCU also supported the Bedtime Story hour, Spring Fun Day, Reading is Fun and Pennies for Patients programs, TEES mentoring and Peer Mediation programs, the Parent Coffee Club program and Moola Deposit Days, as well as the Principal's Academic Achievement Award. Summit Area Chapter of Credit Unions, Akron, OH, have collected $14,724.29 this year for the Warm The Soles of Kids shoe project. New Balance cross-trainers are purchased and distributed to children through the County Childrens Services, counselors in the middle schools, Salvation Army, Red Cross, and other community clothing services. One hundred percent of the money raised goes to purchase shoes. More than $78,000 total has been collected for Warm the Soles over six years. Earthmover Credit Union, Aurora, Ill.,has donated 23 units of blood during its first blood drive of 2005. Teaming with Heartland Blood Centers a total of 28 participants took the time to give blood to help those in need. Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union, Fayetteville, N.C., has donated $1,400 to the Fort Bragg Fisher House. The Fisher House is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times – during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. In honor of the contribution the Fisher House presented the credit union with a certificate of appreciation. SELCO Community Credit Union, has raised over $13,500 for the community. Each month SELCO CCU works with a Community Partner to provide an opportunity for their membership to donate money to various charities. SELCO staff members volunteer to plan fundraising activities in each of the branch locations. In addition to passing on the funds raised by its members, SELCO donates $250 to each organization. ENT Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo., employees and members have donated more than 2,250 pounds of food to the Care & Share Food Bank. Out of the 344 companies that participated ENT FCU was not only in the top 10 food contributors but Care & Share also awarded the credit union second place in the Most Combined Pounds per Employee category with 4.67 pounds of food donated per employee. Care & Share Food Bank provides food to nearly 400 regional home service agencies and 25,000 people each week. Smart Financial Credit Union, Houston, has recently participated in the Education Foundation of Harris County's 2nd Annual Walk for Education. Some 40 Smart Financial managers and staff joined thousands of other community-conscious walkers to show support for education. Through registration fees and an internal fund-raiser, Smart Financial's staff donated nearly $2,500 to the Walk for Education. In addition, the credit union donated $1,000 as an Advocate of Education sponsor.
