NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – South Carolina Federal Credit Union is encouraging area credit unions to show their support for tsunami victims in southeast Asia by committing to match donations to Water Missions International (WMI) up to $10,000. Charleston, South Carolina-based WMI designs integrated engineering systems that provide clean drinking water to aid in emergency relief efforts. Each of these units, called Living Water Treatment Systems, can purify up to 10,000 gallons of water per day, which is enough for 3,000 to 5,000 people. “I can't think of anything more critical than providing clean water to the victims of this terrible tragedy,” said SC FCU President/CEO Scott Woods. “We are committed to joining with our credit union family in support of those affected by the tsunami.” S.C. Federal will accept donations from area credit unions on behalf of WMI through March 31, 2005 and will forward the funds to WMI in one lump sum, including the credit union's match up to $10,000. The credit union is also accepting donations from anyone wishing to contribute to the World Council of Credit Unions.
