SunCorp Committed to Being Long-time Player in Item Processing

ARVADA, Colo. – Talk of declining check volume or the changes brought forth by Check 21 aren’t dimming SunCorp’s interest in item processing. The corporate has been conducting extensive research into how to run the most efficient item processing business possible, says SunCorp CEO Eric Kenealy. “We have studied item processing like never before, done comprehensive analysis like never before. We’re trying to drive efficiencies like never before,” he said. “Whether it’s Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, or Idaho we need to be more efficient.” Kenealy said one of the keys is doing more with its image archive. “We want to use our image archive to help credit unions centralize payment needs. Get share draft processing, deposits, lock box, payments, coupon receipts -all these things we can image for credit unions to do research and adjustments,” he said. Kenealy said he’s thrilled with the volume the corporate is seeing in Nebraska. Nebraska CUs were traditionally served by the Fed, but it closed its Omaha office. Kenealy said for the month of December, volume was 500,000 up from 0 last December. SunCorp became a player in Nebraska when it acquired the corporate there some years ago. Overall, SunCorp is processing 16.5 million items a month.
