Looking back eight years ago finds the Credit Union Campaign for Consumer Choice kicking off its start on Capitol Hill with a “Fat Cats” ad in congressional newspaper Roll Call. To build on the momentum a “Campaign Tool Kit” has been sent to a combined 12,000 credit unions and credit union leagues. The need for consumer choice in financial services and the banking industry’s greed are the twin themes emphasized throughout the 20-page document. “We kept it simple, not for credit union executive and directors, but primarily because some in Congress and the media aren’t yet familiar with credit unions and our issues,” said CUNA Spokesman Mark Wolff. ” Also we would hope that credit unions would be able to use the information for internal education.” Also in that issue the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued the first credit union patent to The Golden 1 Credit Union for its Lender Direct Credit Evaluation and Loan Processing System. “ There are many locations, such as retail outlets, where this lending system will be beneficial,” said The Golden 1 CU President/CEO Stan Hollen. “We see great potential of future expansion utilizing service delivery technologies like the Internet, use by consumers at home with personal computers, or at any other remote location where a consumer would need to arrange financing.”
