PEWAUKEE, Wis. – While the Consumer Bankers Association challenges the state's no-call list, the Wisconsin Credit Union League is making the most of an opportunity to showcase the credit union difference. The CBA claims the state's restrictions on businesses that call existing customers who have registered for the no-call list in Wisconsin make it difficult for bankers to "reach existing customers." According to WCUL Director of Public Relations Sandy Malone, it is important that members know that credit unions disagree and stand with legislators and consumers in supporting a strong no call list. The league has made lobby posters available to member credit unions that not only alert members to bankers' efforts to weaken the popular No Call List but also reinforce the credit union support of consumers' privacy rights. "We support your freedom from unwanted phone solicitations," states the poster. "Banks' attempts to create loopholes in the program reveal their focus on increasing profits irrespective of consumers' wishes. Not-for-profit credit unions, however, are different. Because we're owned by our members.we want what's best for you. We feel we share your values including your right to privacy." Credit unions interested in the lobby posters should contact the Wisconsin Credit Union League.
