SUNRISE, Fla. – Broward Schools Credit Union is counting on a name change to BrightStar Credit Union to help honor its educational roots while appealing to the entire South Florida community. "We're still the same great credit union-owned by the same folks, our members-and with the same friendly staff," said BrightStar CU CEO Raffael Crockett. "We've simply changed our name to help us get the word out that we are now open to the community. The new name will help us to deliver low-cost financial services to all people in South Florida." According to Crockett, it took some two years and over 1,000 names for the $250 million credit union to find a name and logo that would signify hope, strength and continue to position the credit union as a guiding light. "We're very proud of our heritage," said BrightStar CU Board Chair Dr. Dorothy Orr, "We remain dedicated to serving Broward Schools. You can expect us to continue to be very involved in Broward County Public Schools now and in the future."
