CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.-Fort Campbell Federal Credit Union was approved by NCUA to convert to a community charter serving five counties in Tennessee and Kentucky. Anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Montgomery or Stewart County, Tenn. or Christian, Todd, or Trigg County, Ky. can now join Fort Campbell, which previously primarily served the base. The community encompasses 236,000 with three of the counties having less than 13,000 residents. The credit union currently serves 32,112 members. “Our primary reason for applying for a Community Charter was to give people in the community the opportunity for credit union membership,” Fort Campbell President and CEO John Moorhead explained. There are not many credit unions in the area, he said. Additionally, after consulting the board, the diversification a community charter affords would be a huge benefit to a military-based credit union with the deployments to Iraq over the last couple years. “We are excited to have the opportunity to offer our products and services to more members of our community so they can experience the benefits of credit union membership,” Moorhead said. Fort Campbell Federal Credit Union was chartered in September 1954 and has since grown into a full service financial institution serving over 32,000 members.
