WASHINGTON- Outgoing Treasury Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Wayne Abernathy opened the fourth meeting of the Financial Literacy and Education Commission Jan. 13. U.S. Mint Director Henrietta Holsman Fore, Congresswoman Judy Biggert (R-Ill.), and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Education Dan Iannicola, Jr. were scheduled to address the meeting. The FLEC also heard from guest speakers Securities and Exchange Commission Director of Investor Education Susan Wyderko, Citigroup Director of the Office of Financial Education Dara Duguay, Students in Free Enterprise President and CEO Alvin Rohrs, and United Parcel Service Corporate Compensation Manager Steven Nord on best practices for financial education. The commission was established under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act and includes representatives from 20 different federal departments, agencies, and commissions, including NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson. The goal of the commission is to improve financial education across the country.
