SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Federal Credit Union (SACU) wants to help its members learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In honor of the observation of Dr. King’s birthday, beginning January 12 the $1.7 billion credit union will provide free interactive CDs, entitled Reaching Beyond Our Dreams, at all 14 SACU branch locations on a first-come first-served basis, while the supply of 6,000 lasts. “We believe that it is important for everyone to know about the rich heritage and history of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s involvement in the Civil Rights Movement and how his actions and struggles helped to open doors for all,” said SACU President/CEO Jeff Farver. Designed to complement the various celebrations planned in San Antonio, the CD includes a timeline of King’s life; video clips from some of the marches in which King participated and portions of the San Antonio march; and profiles of local heroes who have demonstrated the courage of Dr. King. The audio- and video-based CDs will also be available to the public during the 18th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. March on January 17, 2005. SACU has been a sponsor of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial March in San Antonio for the past three years. Usually the credit union makes a cash donation to help pay the cost of a number of large billboards that are placed around San Antonio to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King. This year, the local agency that coordinates the event came to SACU and asked for its help in distributing interactive CDs that provide a biographical look at the life of Dr. King. Laura Thompson Agency and G2E Services developed the CDs, with the additional sponsorship of HEB, SBC, the Harry V. Burns Foundation, Foster CM Group, Antioch Community Transformation Network, and Zeitgeist Expressions.
