CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Metro Credit Union has recently sponsored a local urban "old-school jam" radio station WBAV's new morning talk show Dollars and Sense as part of its continuing outreach efforts into the African-American community. Hosted by popular morning radio personality Jaye Delai, the program revolves around the idea of "if it don't make dollars, it don't make sense". Delai is a 15 year broadcast veteran, actor and comedian that lives his life by the belief that "a man's legacy is not what he acquires, but what he deposits in others." New to the Charlotte Metro market, Delai's decision to impact and really help the community by providing educational information in a fun and entertaining way appealed to Charlotte Metro Credit Union's Vice President of Marketing Deb McLean. "After hearing his first Dollars and Sense program, I called my representative at the station and said – this is a godsend for the community and a great opportunity to partner," said McLean, "We worked out an agreement to not only sponsor the show, but on occasion offer topic suggestions and be an advisor on some financial issues impacting the urban community." McLean has been featured on the show and spoke on topics ranging from identity theft to the perils of "joint ownership on personal checking accounts." "The response was tremendous. Many of our members are already listeners to the WBAV station and told our staff how excited they were to hear their credit union on the air," said McLean. "But also, since we are a community credit union, this is a tremendous opportunity for us to reach new members – with WBAV's largely African American and female demographic, this was a perfect way to reach our targeted audience." Mclean says sponsoring a station that is so involved and committed to the urban community has added benefits such as Delai and his "V-Crew" giving CMCU "shout-outs" and mentioning how friendly and giving the employees are. "You can't buy publicity like that."
