DULUTH, Georgia -Georgia Credit Union Affiliates President/CEO Mike Mercer and TIC Federal Credit Union President/CEO Janet Davis were recently interviewed last week on “Georgia Focus”, a public affairs radio program, produced by Georgia News Network (GNN). The program was aired throughout the state of Georgia on GNN stations December 11 and 12. Interviewed by host Rob Maynard, Mercer provided basic information about credit unions for listeners, highlighting the benefits of credit union membership. He also discussed the Cooperative Principles of Georgia Credit Unions: “Members, Not Just Customers,” “One Member, One Vote,” “Service Makes the Difference,” and “Profits Belong to the Members.” “Since credit unions are not motivated by profit,” he said, “they can focus on helping people achieve their financial objectives.” Mercer explained that, in addition to basic financial products and services, credit unions also provide services such as financial education, credit counseling, and youth share accounts for their members. In his comments about credit unions working together cooperatively, Mercer described how shared branching works, providing greater access for credit union members. Davis gave an overview of her credit union, which serves Fort Benning and some 200 SEGs in the Chattahoochee Valley region of Georgia. In addition, she spoke of the assistance TIC FCU provides to military troops and their families, prior to their deployment overseas, as well as serving them electronically during their deployment. Throughout the show, references were made to the Affiliates’ Web site address and phone number for those who were interested in joining a credit union. “Georgia Focus” is a weekly public affairs program featuring community leaders and advocates from Atlanta and across Georgia. Host Rob Maynard takes a deeper look at issues that are often lost in the 24-hour news cycle.
