ARLINGTON, Va. – Mary Martha Fortney is coming up on her one-year anniversary as president/CEO of NASCUS, a position she was appointed to in January after a NASCUS appointed search committee spent four months conducting an extensive search and whittled its recommendation list down to seven finalists, one of whom was Fortney. Before being named to the spot, Fortney had served as acting president/CEO for five months after former president/CEO Doug Duerr was dismissed. A 10-and-a-half year veteran of NASCUS, she had been vice president of regulatory affairs and before that director of accreditation and communications. Fortney’s move to the corner office at NASCUS was the first of what by year’s end turned out to be two important staff appointments for the association. In May, Sandra Troutman joined the NASCUS management team as executive vice president of government relations. Replacing Jonathan Lindley who served as vice president of national advocacy, Troutman was formerly director of corporate communications and public relations at WesCorp.
