MADISON, Wis. – CUNA Mutual Group has strengthened its commitment to corporate credit unions by adding a vice president of corporate credit union relations. The company named Dan Kavanaugh, a 14-year CUNA Mutual veteran to the post. Kavanaugh was most recently vice president of customer development. He will report to Don Davidson, vice president of credit union system relations, who has been working on corporate CU relations as well as league relations. Kavanaugh seems to have a breadth of experience, including marketing positions, investment positions, and customer service positions within CUNA Mutual. CUNA Mutual became more involved with corporates a few years back when it introduced its CUNA Mutual Notes program. So far corporates have invested approximately $550 million through Notes. Kavanaugh admitted he doesn’t know that much about how corporates operate, but he’s committed to getting up to speed. “I’m learning very quickly about coporates, they’re an important part of the credit union system,” said Kavanaugh. He is going to spend a few days at SunCorp for a hands-on look at day-to-day life at a corporate. Kavanaugh thinks CUNA Mutual and corporates have the potential to work together in key areas. “I think there are a lot of opportunities out there, trying to get more investment yield, pooling of loans. We’re working on something in the Midwest right now that will be fairly substantial,” said Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh wouldn’t elaborate on what the deal was, but it involves Corporate Central CU in Wisconsin.
