NASHVILLE -Corporate credit unions continue to find ways to get lawmakers to visit their shops. Congressman Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.) recently took a tour of the VolCorp facility, which included a demonstration of VolCorp’s item processing operation. VolCorp President/CEO Bruce Fahnestock presented Cooper with an overview of VolCorp’s strategic mission of providing wholesale financial services to member credit unions which ultimately helps his constituents, individual credit union members. When the tour was finished, Cooper participated in a roundtable discussion with several credit union CEOs. The roundtable covered such things as how credit unions are reaching out to serve the underserved in their community and providing affordable financial services to the Spanish-speaking population of the area. Cooper currently serves on three different committees: the Armed Services Committee (including the Terrorism and Special Forces Subcommittee), the Budget Committee, and the Government Reform Committee. He has pledged his support to the credit unions in his district.
