FORT WORTH, Texas – An increasing number of credit unions are involved in mortgage lending and are offering a wider menu of mortgage problems. Unfortunately CUs continue to hold only 2% of the mortgage market share, and credit unions say part of the problem is members' lack of awareness that mortgages are available at their credit union. As part of its strategy to raise awareness among members of CUs' mortgage offerings, CU Members Mortgage has come out with a new program called Reach Out & Lend that includes tools CUs can use to increase mortgage lending, as well as bring in new members. With CUs originating only 2% of all mortgages in the U.S., CU Members Mortgage VP Linda Clampitt said the company wants to change that by giving credit unions a deeper understanding of the mortgage industry and tools to reach their members with home buying information. Among the features of Reach Out & Lend is a weekly newsletter – HomeRun! – that includes information for loan officers on important mortgage updates and other topics of interest. CUs also receive content for their Web sites and articles for their own newsletters regularly. In addition, CU Members Mortgage, through Reach Out & Lend, provides CUs with marketing and publicity support materials. Reach Out & Lend is available to credit unions affiliated with CU Members Mortgage at no charge.
