APPLETON, Wis. – Suze Orman, a nationally-known financial advisor, recently shared some of her investment and retirement pearls of wisdom to a large crowd here.Nearly 800 persons attended a recent financial advisory session presented by Orman, a widely-known financial advisor and host of her own show on CNBC. The $450 million Fox Communities Credit Union sponsored Orman's visit at the KI Convention Center. Orman touted real estate as a sound investment. She gave the example of a $100,000 home purchased with a 10% down payment. Appreciation on real estate in the United States is generally about 4%, Orman said. The house can potentially appreciate $4,000 and can bring in a 40% return on the down payment, she told attendees. Orman also urged people to take advantage of their company's match on 401(k) plans to save for retirement. If an employee invests $1 in the plan and a company matches it with 50 cents, she said, that's an automatic 50% return.
