BestSource Credit Union, Waterford, Mich. employees have donated over $400 worth of school supplies for children in need. All donations will benefit the Lighthouse of Oakland County and will be used to prepare children for current school year. Supplies donated include such must-have items as notebooks, backpacks and markers. The Lighthouse of Oakland County is a nonprofit organization that provides immediate assistance for Oakland County’s low-income families and senior citizens in crisis situations. Citadel Federal Credit Union, Thorndale, Pa., has sponsored the “Discover New Trails at Your Library” Summer Reading Club at 18 public libraries in Chester County. Due to budget cuts, the Chester County Library System wanted to ensure that the summer reading program continued. Thanks to the credit union, the Chester County Library System is able to continue to provide t-shirts and prizes to those who participant of the reading club. Club members received a “Discover New Trails” reading chart on which they recorded the books they read. EECU, Fort Worth, Texas, staffers have donated their time to be part of Operation Rest and Recovery at the Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Operation Rest and Recovery it allows the soldiers who served in Iraq approximately fourteen days to be home with their families before returning to duty. Volunteers spent hours at the airport welcoming home soldiers, helping them make their connecting flights or meet their families. HarborOne Credit Union, Brockton, Mass., has donated $5,000 to the annual Appeal Campaign of Old Colony Hospice. The donation will help continue programs for patient care and services. The nursing staff can now care for as many as 60 patients per day. Old Colony Hospice has been dedicated to preserving the dignity and quality of life for terminally ill patients since 1979. Portland Teachers Credit Union, Ore., has donated $5,000 to support Childspree for Kidney Kids through the National Kidney Foundation of Oregon & Washington. Nationally, Mervyn’s hosts the two hour-long shopping sprees, providing an average of $100 to each child. The funds help children whose lives are directly affected by kidney disease. This is the fourth year Portland Teachers Credit Union has participated in the event and this year some 110 local children attended. Point Loma Credit Union, San Diego, has hosted its 7th Annual Children’s Safety Fair. The annual event is designed to be a fun and informative way to teach local kids the importance of personal safety and is free for children ages three to 13. Some 1,800 people attended this year. Ent Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo., has sponsored the American Discovery Trail Marathon and Half Marathon of Colorado. The event attracted more than 400 participants, which included six representatives of Ent FCU. As the marathon beneficiary, the Trails and Open Space Coalition will receive over $7,000 to support its mission to preserve open space and create a network of trails, bikeways, and greenways in the Pikes Peak Region. Schools Financial Credit Union, Sacramento, Calif., staffers and family members have recently donated their time and talents for the Special Olympics by volunteering for the 2004 Northeast Region Golf Competition. Some 240 Special Olympics athletes from throughout Northern California traveled to Sacramento to compete. Schools Financial CU supports various Sacramento-area charities and organizations, including its own Spirit of Giving program, the Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento, the Sacramento Children’s Home, and the Children’s Miracle Network.
