Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union, Tampa, has recently awarded $20,000 scholarships to 11 deserving college-bound students. Scholarship amounts ranged from $1,000 to $2,500 and were awarded through the Suncoast Schools FCU Scholarship Foundation. Recipients are selected based on academic performance, leadership abilities and financial needs. Iowa Credit Union Foundation, Des Moines, has awarded the League President's Scholarship to Traci Stiles of Des Moines Metro CU. Stiles will use the $2,000 scholarship to complete Certified Credit Union Executive certification and achieve professional goals. The Iowa Credit Union League President's Scholarship is available to all credit unions and/or chapters in the state of Iowa. The scholarship program is made possible by funding from both the Iowa Credit Union Foundation and investment returns from the Community Investment Fund. Chartway Federal Credit Union, Virginia Beach, Va., has raised $215,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern Virginia. The credit union has earned the distinction as the largest contributor to the local chapter in the State of Virginia. Tournament celebrity attendees include Joanna Cassidy of HBO's Six Feet Under, Singer/Actress Susan Anton, Survivor All-Star Rudy Boesch and Washington Redskins' Charley Taylor, Pat Fischer, Mark Moseley, Jimmie Jones, and Mike Bragg. Chetco Federal Credit Union, Harbor, Ore., has awarded some 18 scholarships totaling $50,000 to hardworking students from five high schools in Del Norte, Curry and Coos counties. Students were selected based on their academic achievements and community outreach efforts. UniStar Federal Credit Union, Tarrytown, N.Y., and local radio station WFAS have selected Alexander Hamilton High School Class Valedictorian Christina Wihlborg as the 2004 Student of the Year. Wihlborg was awarded a $5,000 college scholarship. This is the fourth consecutive year that UniStar has partnered with WFAS FM to offer this special college scholarship. Students are judged on academic strength, leadership qualities extracurricular activities and service to the community. Raritan Bay Federal Credit Union, Sayreville, N.J., has awarded three scholarships to students Jennifer Margret Smith, Michael R. Devine and Louis S. Andreuzzi . The scholarship competition was available to all high school seniors, who are members in good standing of NJCUL-affiliated credit unions. Winners selected were judged on scholastic achievement, extra curricular and community activities, teacher references, leadership qualities and written essays.
