Kitchen says He Would Consider Another Credit Union Job

MADISON, Wis. – Former CUNA Mutual President/CEO Mike Kitchen isn’t ruling out a return to the industry, in fact he said he’d love it. Though he’s not actively seeking any particular position, Kitchen said he is staying in touch with his credit union contacts and if the right job came along, he would take it. Kitchen has been dealing with some family health issues since leaving CUNA Mutual in early August, and said he hasn’t been following what’s been happening at the company. But he did want his former employees to know how he feels. “I just think they’re all great people and I admire their dedication to credit unions. I’m very grateful to them,” he said. Kitchen’s departure shocked the industry. He was forced out by the board after voluntarily disclosing that he offered $1,000 to a group of employees seeking to form their own bargaining unit. The union made murmurs about pursuing criminal charges against him. Kitchen, who maintains he did nothing illegal, dubbed those threats as nothing more than “smoke and mirrors.”
