WASHINGTON-As part of CUNA's National Hike the Hill month, the Alabama Credit Union League met with influential Senate Banking Committee Chairman Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) to express their appreciation for a number of his stances on issues important to credit unions. League Vice President of Governmental/Public Affairs and Staff Counsel Will McCarty said the primary thing the group planned to do was thank the senator for his support of credit unions' tax exemption. "He stepped out early and in a very positive way," McCarty explained. McCarty said the Alabama credit unions would also ask for his continued support on regulatory relief and bankruptcy reform.
