WASHINGTON-Few people are lucky enough to turn a hobby into a money making proposition. NAFCU Communications Manager John Zimmerman has put his passion for photography to work for him. “My principle goal is to make enough money to carry on my habit,” he said, adding that he is getting there. Zimmerman has sold 14 framed prints during exhibits at this point. In the last year, he has shown his work at the Arlington County Library, Linden Vineyards near Front Royal, Va., and a popular coffee shop called Hot Shotz. He displayed 20 photos at this most recent exhibit. Even though he enjoys photography on its own merits, the shows give him an excuse to get together with friends and show off his work. Though he describes his work as an “eclectic” mix, Zimmerman explained that he now has enough work enlarged and ready for sale to begin areas of specialization, such as the beach or, his latest, Washington, D.C. “Since there are billions of photographs of D.C. that people have blown up into posters and in calendars, I try to find a different angle of looking at the subject,” he said. A particular subject of interest to him is the Memorial Bridge in view of the Lincoln Memorial. With NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus kicking off in D.C. this week, Zimmerman may have more occasions to take some winning shots in the nation’s capital. [email protected]
