WESTBROOK, Maine -Some may say that Evergreen Credit Union Senior Vice President/CFO Kate Archambault leads a double life – reserved accountant by day and third-degree black belt at night. On the weekends Archambault morphs into her role as part owner and chief instructor of the Northern Chi Martial Arts Studio “There’s nothing more stress relieving than getting to hit and kick things in a controlled environment,” said Archambault, ” Most people in my classes can’t believe that I’m an accountant.” The studio offers classes in Kenpo Karate, Tai Chi and self-defense for women. It is also branching out into the corporate world by offering safety awareness courses to those who spend most of their time out in field for example real estate agents or auditors. Archambault teaches about eight classes a week. She says she has always been interested in martial arts because “ it is much more about personal development and not at all like in the movies. It takes years of training to be proficient.” “It is a great way to improve overall fitness level, improve coordination and self confidence,” said Archambault. “You don’t have to be fit or thin and I think it is a fun way to get your daily exercise in without going into a gym and doing the same routine over and over again. Besides what other exercise lets you learn a practical skill while having fun and is always interesting?” [email protected]
