ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has scheduled its fourth Access Across America Economic Empowerment Summit for Oct. 14 in Tampa, Fla. “NCUA’s fourth summit will bring together the public and private sectors to discuss the important issues of economic empowerment. The summit will provide an overview of resources available to credit unions, which may assist them in their outreach efforts to promote financial education, homeownership, and member business lending,” NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson said. “NCUA looks forward to joining with the credit union officials and volunteers in the southeast, who are making a difference in the lives of their members and empowering families toward the American Dream of financial self-sufficiency.” Panels during the free, one-day summit will cover financial education, homeownership, member business lending, and partnership opportunities for credit unions. There will also be a session regarding grant writing techniques and serving underserved areas. Top government leaders will be participating from the Departments of Agriculture, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, the Treasury, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Export-Import Bank of the United States, Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, and Small Business Administration. The summit will educate credit unions on how to expand financial services to their members, particularly by partnering with government agencies and other non-profits. Credit unions from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi are invited to participate.
