JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Longtime VyStar Credit Union Board Director Michael Cascone has been presented the 2004 Defense Credit Union Council Hall of Honor award. DCUC established its “Hall of Honor” in 2000 to recognize its heroes for their extraordinary contributions and inordinate support of DCUC and the defense credit union movement. Recognized for his years of active support of military personnel and their families, Cascone was not only instrumental in helping found VyStar Credit Union (then Jax Navy) in 1952, but he was also member number one. He has served as base liaison to VyStar’s Board and on VyStar’s Board of Directors for over 52 years. “Michael Cascone is the epitome of commitment and dedication to making the world a better place. We congratulate him for receiving this prestigious award that exemplifies the best of the best in the credit union community. We are very fortunate to have him on our board and grateful for his countless hours of public service to our community and to VyStar and its members,” said VyStar CU Board Chairman/ DCUC Board Vice Chairman Ralph R. Story.Over the years Cascone’s exceptional service has been recognized by several organizations and include: a recent Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizens Award; Florida Credit League’s Pioneer of the Year and Volunteer of the Year Awards; and induction into the Florida Credit Union League’s Hall of Fame. He has served as president of the National Association of Credit Unions for five years, and Diocese of St. Augustine in key volunteer positions of several agencies. A World War II veteran, Cascone retired in 1976 as the Industrial Relations Officer at Naval Air Station in Jacksonville.
