WASHINGTON-CUNA enlisted some political players to address its Election Fair Sept. 22 to discuss how to harness the potential voting power of 85 million American credit union members in an election. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Congressman Mike Michaud (D-Maine) will be joined by Charlie Cook of The Cook Political Report, a well-respected online information source, to address the approximately 700 credit union officials expected to attend the event. Cook will provide a breakdown of potential voter power of credit unions and provide tips on how best to tap that power. “Our aim with the Election Fair is to prepare those who attend to be ambassadors to their fellow credit union leaders who were unable to attend,” CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica explained. “Overall, we want to reach out to the average 192,000 credit union members in each congressional district, and get them to vote.” The Election Fair, part of CUNA’s National Hike the Hill Month, is slated for Sept. 22 at the Phoenix Park Hotel on Capitol Hill. Displays and boots will showcase CUNA’s political and grassroots efforts to demonstrate credit unions’ involvement in the political process.
