KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Midwest United Credit Union has made the cut as one of Kansas City’s elite Best Places to Work. Selected by the Kansas City Business Journal, Midwest United CU was rated on issues ranging from work environment/culture and personal growth opportunities to people/management in general and embracing new ideas and change. The $131 million credit union has been featured alongside other winners in a special pull-out section of The Kansas City Business Journal, Sept. 10 edition. Midwest United CU CEO Pat Yokely credits communication as a key role in both employee satisfaction and the credit union’s success. The communication strategy includes practicing Open Book Management and reviewing financial details monthly with the management team and quarterly with the entire staff, to keep everyone squarely focused on the vision for the future and certain where exactly they are along the path. In addition, third-party employee satisfaction surveys are conducted annually to identify strengths and weaknesses in management, communication, job satisfaction, advancement opportunities, work environment, and more. “We believe strongly that our team is critical to our success, and they deserve no less than our total commitment,” said Yokley. Living by the FISH! philospohy of Play, Make Their Day, Choose Your Attitude and Be There since 2001 has also made a positive cultural impact. “When we ask our employees why they like working here, the replies consistently focus around the same themes: `We love it here because you believe in having fun at work,’ `We’re like a big family,’ and `My manager is flexible regarding my needing time to work around my family-time. They value me as a person, not just a worker-bee.” said Midwest United CU Vice President of Administration Cindy Clawson. “The conscious effort to maintain commitment to service excellence while staying family-focused and light-hearted at work shows up in how members feel about what we like to call, the Midwest United Credit Union experience.”
