ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Credit Union League has officially joined the growing ranks of credit union leagues that have changed their name to be called an association, citing the confusion caused by the word "league." The name change to the Credit Union Association of New Mexico was effective September 1. The name change was voted on by affiliated credit unions at the CUANM's annual meeting in June. The vote was unanimous, and the Association said it "reflects the Association's desire to make the organization's primary purpose more obvious to legislators and members of the public." Association President/CEO Sylvia Lyon said being called a League was "a little confusing to people," adding that with the new name "we won't have to explain who we are and what we are when introducing ourselves to legislators and other community members." Along with the name change, the Association has a new logo that incorporates the shape of the state. Designed by Marketing Director Grant Price, the Association said the logo was designed to give it a modern and updated image while still being uniquely New Mexican.
