SYRACUSE, N.Y.-A former credit union branch manager was sentenced to nearly four years in prison last week after admitting to embezzling over $1 million from her employer. According to a report on Newsday.com, Sharon Ann Smith was sentenced to 46 months in prison for the embezzlement scheme at Rome Federal Credit Union that netted her $1,085,370 from 1995 to 2003. She had worked for Rome FCU since 1987. She will have to pay the entire amount in restitution and will be supervised for five years following her prison sentence. Smith is married to a staffer for Congressman Sherwood Boehlert (R-N.Y.), who did not know about the embezzlement, Newsday.com reported.
